RISD, in cooperation with Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), hosted a June 22nd congressional briefing in Washington DC to highlight the importance of integrating Art + Design into the national STEM agenda, and to introduce legislation that calls for the advancement of STEAM.

Congresspeople, staffers, interested public and RISD alumni attended a panel discussion on how scientists, artists and designers must develop new ways of working together and new modes of research and education. Panelists included:

Rhode Island Briefing | September 2011

Discussion continued locally in September with a briefing at the Rhode Island Foundation that recognized the state’s leadership position in enacting policies and collaborations that advance the pivotal role of Art + Design in building STEAM.

The STEM to STEAM Briefing was presented in cooperation with Congressman Jim Langevin (RI-2), the Rhode Island Science and Technology Advisory Council, the Rhode Island Foundation, Rhode Island College, and the Rhode Island Department of Education. Participants included:
